Why this site has been created

If you grew up in the Akron area, chances are you stumbled upon Akron's lone TV news broadcast. For a time, the station used the call letters "WAKR" and later "WAKC" but most folks just knew it as "23 News." On leap year day 1996, Akron news went dark as the station's new owner shut down the evening broadcasts. 40+ years of broadcasting history tossed out when a business group decided to turn out the lights.

This site is place to share your thoughts about the old days of Akron TV News and catch up with the people who once delivered those evening broadcasts. Have fun.

Eric - you might want to reinvigorate this blog. I found Jim Kambrich at channel 13 in Albany NY. Bob Dyer mentioned Carol Costello. I see Mindy Mccormick? on infomercials. I think she's in Florida.
